Other People’s Opinion of You…Not Your Own

image “When people put you down long enough you start to believe it”. I was watching the movie Pretty Woman today and I heard Julia Roberts make that statement. For those who have not seen the movie it’s a Cinderella type love story about a hooker, Julia and her rich Jon Richard Gere who pays her to spend the week with him as his date.  After spending time with her he Begins to see that there’s more to her than what is seen in the life she has been living.
He tells her that she is smart and starts to tell her the good attributes that he sees, she makes the statement, when you hear negative and derogatory things said about you for so long you begin to believe it and then you start to become it,(my emphasis.)  The bad stuff is easier to believe than the good.

Hearing that statement sparked me to write this piece because it’s so true.  Each of us can tell our own story about the unbelief we feel when someone tells us about all the good things they see or admire about us.

How much do we focus on and believe the criticisms of others more than the strengths and capabilities that we hold.

Even when we do know our owns strengths and gifts,we many times cower back in the background and let others take ownership and responsibility for things we clearly know we would do better.  We do it because we either don’t really believe in ourselves enough or are afraid to step up and take on the challenge.

We don’t have to allow other people’s opinion of us to become our reality.  We need only believe in ourselves enough to know that we can do what we determine or were gifted to do, and watch our environment open up and lead us into the right time and place.

But as the pretty woman said, it’s easier to believe the bad stuff.  My take is because we have been conditioned to.

It’s easier and does not take much effort.  When you decide to press in to who you know you were meant to be, you are many times going up stream in a downhill current.

One of the things I have been working on to help renew my mind to believe the truth about who I am, is to participate in the daily A.B.L.E. challenge that Charity’s Hope has going for the month.  Research shows that it takes twenty eight days to change a habit.

Doing the A.B.L.E’s for tthirtyt days is building a new habit.  A.B.L.E. stands for A Beautiful Loving Expression.  It is a statement you start with “I am” A Beautiful Loving Expression of……what ever you are declaring to be the expression of that day.

The goal is to get you to think about who you are or the you that you are striving to be.  In thinking about who that is, you begin to speak or declare to yourself what Beautiful, Loving, Expression of that person you are going to be that day.  It doesn’t matter if that is you Yet.  In declaring it at the beginning of your day you are planting the seeds in your conscious mind to start hearing out of your own mouth, what you believe about yourself.

As you hear yourself  expressing the positive attributes of you in the tense of it being now; you are re conditioning yourself to believe that it is,  even if  not yet in full manifestation.  This makes it normal and natural as you begin to operate in the Beautiful Loving Expressions of yourself that you have declared to be you.

This is the process of not allowing other people’s opinions of you become your reality unless that opinion is in agreement with the reality of you that you know to be the one you choose.  You don’t have to believe the unbelief of others about you, when they speak their negative beliefs you declare, I am A.B.L.E!

The Change

These damn hot flashes! I know it’s pretty harsh language, but just how I feel. Going through “the change” is such a life altering event, no matter how much you read about it or others tell you how it’s going to be, the experience is yours and yours alone. No one can truly prepare you for all that You will go through while experiencing “the change”
Right now my room is at 47 degrees, yea but I dare not warm it up because the slightest bit of warmth signals my body to turn up the heat and there I go, breaking out into a sweat, throwing off the blanket, sweater or whatever I’m wearing. The moment I cool down of course I’m freezing! And there it begins the back and forth, clothes off, clothes on. There is no rest, I’ve tried the creams, oils and vitamins. Some days are better than others. Nights are the worst, with the tossing and turning I wake up tired. Oh well, I guess I’ll just ride with it today and see how far it takes me into its throws, the change.

Heart to Heart

Felling very grateful to The Lord for his goodness, loving kindness and mercy towards me. No, I haven’t had some miraculous event happen. As a matter of fact, I am currently over my head in debts and bills, with no means of paying them. But in spite of that I received an epiphany concerning his great love and provision for me.  If I let go and trust him completely, he will show me what I need to do to release the blockages that are hindering the provisions that I need from coming through.  No, it’s not connected to my tithing, or any of the other ways to “receive” The Lords blessing that most churches teach.
In actuality, this revelation came on the heels of me looking at a couple of DVD’s that were talking about alternative methods, and ways of healing ourselves from aches and pains in the body. One of the studies revealed that 95% of the physical ailments that we experience in our bodies, is tied to negative emotions, energy that has been stored in our sub conscious mind; which is believed to be where our true belief system lies. It was said that our conscious mind only holds 5% of what we believe, and when our sub conscious beliefs don’t align with our conscious beliefs, the result causes discord in the body which produces negative energy that sometimes get trapped and causes disease. I know for some, this sounds like a bunch of New age mumbo jumbo that I as a Christian should not be entertaining. My belief is that if you truly are a believer then you would realize that much of this knowledge, though not spoken of by our Lord as put, is the basis of what he knew to be true and came to deliver and save us from.  That’s another discussion.  As I was listening, much of it resonated within me and I was able to see why Jesus would admonish us to think and meditate on his words, or not to do and live in certain ways. He knew that in doing so we could be saved from having to experience the perils of what happens if we don’t follow his recommendations. What they were saying, and have found as answers to our body’s miraculous ability to heal itself; was given by my Lord, but his emphasis is that he be the anchor and guide to get us through it. He said that we have to renew our minds from all the ways that we have been programmed into, to the new life of Hope and deliverance he has provided. That mind renewal is practical and spiritual in nature.
I am constantly amazed at how the bible really does hold the answers to all we need in life; particularly the new testament of Jesus Christ. He really did come to give us life in abundance. The problem is,  we read it (the Bible) with our pre programmed religious views, and from a mental, academic mindset, and we miss, or don’t get the truth and essence of what it is saying. That’s because it is a living word who’s truths cannot be fully unlocked through mental knowledge and understanding alone, but in essence of spirit. Jesus said his words are life. In order to get the true essence of who he is, and what he did for us; we have to connect with his words realizing that they are alive and in spirit, emphasis mine.

In many ways it’s like the quark in quantum physics.  It is hard to stabilize or capture because it takes shape and appearance based on the energy of the person that is viewing it at the time.

I went to a deeper level of understanding about myself today, and had a real heart to heart that exposed an area in my spiritual life that needed some mending. From that I have a renewed sense of who I am, and who’s I am.   No all the answered aren’t there yet, nor have my circumstances changed as of yet, but I am ok and at peace with where I am right now; because I KNOW it will all be okay.
I was told that we would have frustrations, trials, and troubles in this world but that I could be at peace, resting in the fact that it has all been taken care of.

Peace comes from me realizing that if he is God, and sees the end from the beginning, and have my life in his hands with plans for me to have Hope and a prosperous future; then I can trust that he will come through on his promise that he will take care of all that concerns me with me being blessed and not cursed.  I’m aware that to you that sounds like one of those “wacky parables” but I understand what he means, and it’s from there that I derive my sense of calm in the midst of this storm.

Anyway, I am thankful for all that he has provided and more excited for this continued journey of life. I am amazed at all we don’t see even with our eyes wide open. I would encourage all believers to not get hung up in all the idioms that are nothing more than chains of bondage, and just begin to simply be transparent with where you really are as you trust him to lead and guide you along the way. The foundation of our faith says that if we believe in our heart, we will be saved. That heart belief goes much deeper to achieve than we are led to believe, but if we take the first step in confessing him as our Lord and ask him to work on our hearts while we begin the process of renewing our mind, we’ll be blown away at what he reveals and does in us. I am yet finding out. Well that’s what I have been dwelling on today. What’s tugging at your heart?

Scenes from my Inner Thoughts

ImageFor the invisible things of him are made intelligible and clearly discernible in and throughout the things that are made…..an excerpt from Romans 1:20. That is the thought that infiltrated my mind this morning as I was sitting and thinking about a direction of my life.
I had a quick vision of me in a classroom that I was the teacher in, talking to a student that I was helping with a life circumstance. In the discussion I was helping him to understand that it is not God making or causing bad things to happen in life. Some things are like phisics; laws that are set in motion being played out.
I am of the persuasion that God is supernaturally natural. Though he is spirit and works in the realm of the supernatural, there are many things he set in the natural realm, that are just a part of what takes place when boundaries are violated. I think we look so much for his workings in our lives to be so other worldly that we miss his simplicity. He has let us know that his qualities can be clearly seen throughout his creation even our own human bodies.
Imagethink of George Washington Carver in all that he did with the peanut. He came up with a myriad of of things that could be used from that one little nut. And, when asked how he thought of them he said, that he would go into what he called “Gods little workshop” and consult the one who created the peanut. Using the knowledge that he had about science, and the wisdom of God, he was able to uncover all of the various attributes that was possible from that one little nut.
The saying “life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get” is another thought that comes to mind in the thinking of life’s little surprises. In reality many of the things we get out of life can be known, we just aren’t looking or paying attention to the right things. Again the invisible things are seen by the things that are visible.
Our actions whether positive or negative will have a reaction or yield a result of some sort. Our thoughts are producing, wether intentional or not; some sort of pattern that our mind and body follows, either in the non conscious or conscious realm.
This dance called life is a wonderful world that has so much to get out of before it’s over. Each one having a distinct purpose and unique dynamic that we only can fulfill; while symbiotically fitting in to the whole of the puzzle. And the way to navigate through it receiving all that we are to do has been made available; if we are only willing to look to the one who created the map in the first place.
NPoint is, there are no random happenings in our lives, it is not like a jumbled box of chocolates, it’s not an accident nor fate setting its course. Our life was formed with a set purpose and design and when we don’t follow the design the laws of consequence are activated. God is not some irrational connivence that we can throw all the ills of life onto as being his fault for not interrupting and making them go away.

His attributes, qualities and awesomeness is clearly seen and understood through his creation, and if we slow down enough and look we will see that he has set us up pretty well; even provided a way of escaping what we have messed up and torn down. But of course that’s too simple for us to see, you see were too busy complicating the message berating and blaming it for not fitting into our form of acceptance. Life is like a box of chocolates, you get to choose.
